Whether your preference is white water or low-keyed rivers and lakes, our paddling program will help you make the most of your time on the water. Western North Carolina is the epi-center of both whitewater kayaking and lake kayaking. Ten river basins drain about 11,459 square miles in Western North Carolina – with everything from Class I – Class V whitewater and lakes that include the 17-mile long Lake Fontana located in our back yard.
Becoming a solid whitewater kayaker is about learning good technique and confidence. We will help you improve- regardless of your skill level. Whether learning your fundamentals, getting your whitewater roll, honing creek boating moves or play boating technique, our hand-picked group of instructors will work with you to have more fun on the river. Time spent with us reflects on your commitment to becoming a better boater. Our classrooms include the Nantahala River, the Tuckasegee River, Little Tennessee, the Ocoee River, and any number of free-flowing creeks that run with rain.
When you want to enjoy time in the out-of-doors, but prefer to leave the adrenaline behind, lake touring is the perfect option! Lake touring is fun for all ages. We offer full-day touring to the lovely Lake Calderwood and Lake Santeelah and Lake Fontana, as well as misty morning and sunset tours on Lake Fontana. We can combine tours with hikes through Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and custom days for individuals or groups looking for a way to explore the beauty of western North Carolina by water.
Traveling outside the country provides an opportunity to combine your passion for paddling and a desire to experience new cultures with a group of like-minded travelers. Costa Rica – frequently described as world renowned for its vast ecosystems, and Ecuador – a favorite destination for international travelers, are our go-to destinations. We have designed our trips for paddlers and non-paddlers alike looking for a quality vacation. Options include whitewater kayaking, whitewater rafting, hiking, birding, waterfalls, yoga, cultural exploration and eco-tourism. We take care of all the logistics that would take away from your time on and off the river! In traveling to Ecuador, we invite you to visit the Rio Quijos EcoLodge, a charming escape located in the Quijos Valley of eastern Ecuador.
